Lexical gap between old and new generations in a Jizani dialect: a sociolinguistic mixed method study

Purpose This study aims to identify and measure the lexical gap between old young generations in Jizani dialect determine causes of that gap. Design/methodology/approach A 20-item questionnaire was distributed randomly among 104 participants. Next, 12 participants were selected interviewed. SPSS software used analyse quantitative data from questionnaire. The elicited interviews qualitatively analysed, considering age gender factors. Findings major findings revealed a language speakers exists. females older generation greater than males. Some words are likely disappear coming decades. Social media, which is time-consuming word-borrowing medium for people, one reasons, besides tendency use prestigious words. Originality/value attempted find differences vocabularies speakers.
